The Clarke Organization of Student Physical Therapists (COSPT) will again collect wheelchairs for “Wheels for the World,” a nation program that restores and distributes the chairs to people with disabilities in developing countries.
Donations of wheelchairs, walkers, canes and crutches can be dropped off on Friday, Nov. 16, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. or Saturday, Nov. 17, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Clarke’s physical therapy department in Catherine Byrne Hall on the Clarke campus.
For more information about donating a wheelchair, contact COSPT at (563)588-6382 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Wheelchairs are collected in any condition and are meticulously restored in the United States by carefully trained inmates in nine separate correctional facilities. The restored wheelchairs are then shipped overseas to meet up with short-term missions teams, who custom fit each wheelchair specifically for each recipient and train him or her in wheelchair use and upkeep. Wheelchair recipients are also presented with a Bible.
Media requesting more information should contact the Clarke College Marketing and Communication Office at (563)588-6318.
