The Clarke College Nursing Department and the College’s Rho Eta chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society will host “Women and Heart Disease” on Tuesday, Feb. 5, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The lecture will be presented by Jan Geertsema, ARNP in the College’s Rose O’Toole Hall. Cost is $35 for dinner and an additional $6 for those interested in obtaining 1.5 nursing continuing education units (CEUs). Reservations for the event are due by Friday, Feb. 1, and can be made by calling (563)588-6339.
During the presentation, Geertsema will discuss the incidence and prevalence of cardiovascular disease in women. She will also explore current studies and the impact they have on management of cardiovascular disease. Personal risk reduction plans and lifestyle changes will also be covered.
Geertsema is a clinical special/nurse practitioner for Medical Associates Clinic. She holds a bachelor of science in nursing and a master of science in nursing degree, both from the College of Dubuque. She is certified as an advanced registered nurse practitioner in Iowa and Wisconsin; is a clinical specialist in medical-surgical nursing; is a certified vascular nurse; and serves on the American Nurses Credentialing Center Board on Certification.
