Clarke University announced today a significant growth in enrollment for the 2010-2011 academic year, with the university seeing a 19 percent increase in first-year students and a 19 percent increase in graduate students. Overall, Clarke saw an increase in total enrollment of over four percent bringing the campus headcount to 1,255.
“We could not be more pleased to welcome one of our largest freshman classes ever to Clarke University,” said Clarke President Joanne M. Burrows, SC, Ph.D. “Our thriving campus is ready to meet the needs of these students as we prepare them to make a great impact on the world.”
Clarke’s traditional undergraduate program combined with the area’s largest array of adult and graduate programs to welcome 422 new students to campus in August. The overall makeup of the campus includes students from 28 states and 12 foreign countries.
“Our growth in graduate programs this year underscores our commitment to serving learners across the adult age spectrum,” said Burrows. “We firmly believe that by creating a campus that brings learners of all levels together, we create a richer experience for all of our students – from the first-year student to the adult returning to school and the doctoral student finishing an advanced degree.”
This year’s enrollment growth at Clarke was achieved while maintaining the high level of academic quality expected from the university. The first-year undergraduate students beginning this fall averaged a score of 23 on the ACT exam, exceeding the national average of 21. The average high school grade-point-average of this group remained at 3.3.
Burrows points to the strength of Clarke’s academic programs and the university’s strong direction moving forward as contributing to the growth. “We take our growth in enrollment as recognition from students that Clarke is an institution – now a university – on the move in new ways,” said Burrows. “We look forward to providing an exceptional experience to these new students, our returning students and future students alike. It is one of the most exciting times in Clarke’s history to be part of our vibrant, learning community.”
