Clarke Co-Sponsors Lecture on Vatican II

Clarke University announced today they will co-sponsor an event celebrating the 5oth Anniversary of the Second Vatican Council.  The lecture at Clarke is one of a four-part series called, "Celebrating Vatican II: Sharing the Vision."  The event at Clarke University will be held on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 at 2 p.m. in Terence Donaghoe Hall.

As host for the event, Clarke University will welcome Dr. Zeni Fox to present her lecture, "The Laity After Vatican II: Collaboration in Ministry."  Dr. Fox is a professor of pastoral theology at Seton Hall University in New Jersey.  In her talk, she describes the call to an awareness of lay ministers as one of the great fruits of Vatican II.  Her works include, "Called and Chosen: Toward a Spirituality for Lay Leaders", and "New Ecclesial Ministry: Lay Professionals Serving the Church."

The Clarke event is free and open to the public, and no registration is needed to attend.  Free parking on campus is also available.  Following the lecture Clarke University will also host a gathering for book signing and light refreshments.

Fifty years ago, Catholic bishops from around the world gathered for The Second Vatican Council.  The renewals within the Catholic Church that followed Vatican II profoundly shaped every aspect of Church life.

The Celebrating Vatican II: Sharing the Vision lecture series is presented by the Catholic Sisters of the Upper Mississippi River Valley, a consortium of religious orders which includes the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVMs), the founding order of Clarke University.  These women religious in the area are providing this opportunity to hear and interact with notable Catholic theologians who are committed to continuing the work of renewal begun fifty years ago.

Other events in the series include:

Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Hiawatha, Iowa
