The Clarke College Music Department will host a Faculty Composition Recital by Associate Professor of Music Amy Dunker on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. in Jansen Music Hall on the Clarke campus. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
The performance by Dunker, a recipient of numerous awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), will feature premiere performances of her newest compositions.
A variety of guest performers will join Dunker for the recital. LaDonna Manternach, BVM, chair and assistant professor of music, and Bev Nichols, accompanist, will perform a song cycle on texts of American lyrical poet Sara Teasdale. The Clarke College New Music Ensemble will also perform.
Selections will include: “Heaven’s Tears,” performed on flute, clarinet and vibraphone; “O!,” a solo flute piece; “zIntrada,” performed on flute and guitar; “Hush!” performed on trumpet; and “Teasdale Songs,” performed with voice and piano.
Dunker said this recital is good preparation for the regional Society of Composers Conference Clarke will host in the spring. “The conference in February will feature the original works of composers from across the country,” said Dunker. “This recital is a wonderful opportunity to begin sharing original musical compositions with not only the entire campus, but with greater the Dubuque community as well.”
