Clarke College will host “Oil and Water,” an exhibit of paintings and drawings by the late John J. Gantz Jr., now through June 30 in the Quigley Gallery 1550 on the Clarke campus. A reception for the exhibit will be held on Sunday, June 4, from 1-3 p.m. in the gallery. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
John J. Gantz Jr. (1948-2005) was born and raised in Dubuque. He graduated from Loras College in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in art. During his years in school, he developed a love of watercolors and oil painting. Summer vacations at Cape Cod inspired John to take photos which he then transformed into paintings during the rest of the year. The last of his oil and watercolor paintings were completed in 1986. This final show of Gantz’s work includes his paintings, as well as a few unfinished works and sketches from a class he took at Clarke in 2005.
The Quigley Gallery 1550 is open Monday through Friday from noon-5 p.m. For more information, contact the Clarke College Public Relations Office at (563)588-6318.
