The Clarke College Mackin-Mailander Lecture Series will continue with this year’s alumni lecture on Tuesday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Jansen Music Hall on the Clarke campus. Lee Kolker, a 1990 Clarke graduate, will present “Sport Stories: One Crusader’s Look Beyond the Scoreboard.” Admission to the lecture is free and the public is invited to attend.
Kolker received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Clarke and is currently the assistant principal at Hempstead High School. His lecture will include reflections on his experiences as a Clarke basketball player and life lessons learned through sports participation.
Kolker played on Clarke College’s second ever men’s basketball team and was a two-time NLCAA Academic All-American and USAA Scholastic All-American selection. He was a co-captain of the team his senior year and for four years in a row was received the team hustle award. Off the court, Lee received Clarke College’s Outstanding Junior Award in 1989, received the Mary Frances Clarke Education Award, and was named valedictorian for the class of 1990.
Kolker has coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, and youth levels. He was named Hempstead’s Teacher of the Year in 1999 and the Northeast Iowa District Basketball Coach of the Year in 1998.
