What does a typical day look like for you?
I work with Clarke students to figure out how to finance their education. Meeting with students and parents is a major part of my day. We also have lots of reporting requirements we have to meet since we are using federal funding which means I'm stuck on my computer a lot, too.
Are you involved on campus in other ways besides in the financial aid office?
Each week, a Clarke staff member brings in their pet for current students to interact with. My beagle and I do pet therapy a couple times each semester.
Do you have professional involvements outside of Clarke?
I am a member of IASFAA (Iowa Association of Financial Aid Administrators) and MASFAA (Midwest Association of Financial Aid Administrators). I volunteer at our church and my daughter’s elementary school.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Getting to know the students one to one.
What has been your greatest experience here at Clarke?
Seeing students I met as high school seniors walk across that graduation stage four years later.
Why did you choose Clarke?
As an alum, I always knew what Clarke had to offer and I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I also love the opportunity to work with students, faculty and staff and know that we’re all working for the same things.
What is something that you enjoy about the campus?
I enjoy all the green spaces on campus. Our facilities staff does a phenomenal job with maintaing the landscaping. I think the LTC is also a great new space.
What should incoming students know about the services you and your office offer?
Come see us early and often. We understand financial aid can be confusing, so we will do our best to make it as simple as possible for you.
