Determination and drive

Sarah has a laid back yet self-assured vibe. She visited Clarke during VIEW weekend and earned a scholarship. She double-majored in Psychology and Philosophy and plans to enter a Clinical Counseling program. Beyond that, she has dreams of joining the Peace Corps and traveling to Greece or Turkey to be involved in field work with refugees. She ultimately sees herself in Vietnam or Cambodia teaching English. She just recently learned how to knit through a You Tube video, and she carries her knitting with her everywhere. She eagerly pulls a knitting project out of her backpack to display. “I knitted all around campus … on the way to class, in class, studying. I am a knitter.” She worked in the library on campus and loved all of her coworkers. Sarah was born in Rapid City, S.D., and grew up in Omaha, Neb. Her high school consisted of 2,500 students, so she greatly appreciated the small atmosphere and individualized attention at Clarke. She loves to travel and last year voyaged to Germany with Terry McGovern’s business class. She and a few other students took an extra week and journeyed to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and London, among other places. Sarah is passionate about equal rights for all, especially the LGBTQ+ group. She was the president of Clarke Alliance. She said, “The need for complete equality, a total blanket of acceptance, is something I fought for passionately as the president of Clarke Alliance.”
