COVID-19 Communication

Clarke Classic Scholarship Program

The Clarke University Golf Classic supports scholarships for incoming students from the tri-state region.

In 2021, six students will receive a $1,000 renewable scholarship for up to four years for a total of $4,000 per student.

2020 Scholarship Recipients

Ella Esser

Ella was born in Arizona and has been living in Dubuque for 14 years. She graduated from Hempstead High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She also attended Psychology Camp at Iowa State University. She works as a library clerk at Carnegie-Stout Public Library and volunteers at the Dubuque Humane Society. At Clarke, she looks forward to opportunities to study abroad and is interested in psychology or pre-med as a major. Having suffered from anxiety and mental illness, she has a heart for people who are hurting. She would like to do innovative research and help individuals rise above mental illness. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and writing poetry and fiction.

Kaia Hunter

Kaia is from Dyersville, Iowa, and graduated from Western Dubuque High School. She was on the women’s soccer team and a member of the Backpacking Bobcats, a hiking group. She loves the outdoors and has hiked at nine national parks, averaging 90 miles during a single hiking trip. At Clarke, she looks forward to joining the nursing program and helping others.

Anthony Kelchen

Anthony attended Hempstead High School and received a gold sash for his GPA upon graduation. He was a member of the German Club. He plans to major in education at Clarke. He is excited to explore activities and athletics on campus. He is a gamer, involved in video games, board games, and card games. He is most inspired by his mother, Lori Kelchen. Through her actions, he has learned to be grateful for every moment and every person around him.

Lindsey Koeller

Lindsey graduated from Southwestern High School in Hazel Green, Wisconsin. She was on the honor roll, awarded Student of the Month twice, a member of the National Honor Society, and in the Leo Club. She participated in basketball, softball, and volleyball. At Clarke, she is excited to join the nursing program and be a member of the Clarke Association of Nursing Students (CANS). Lindsey’s mother is a nurse, and Lindsay has always admired how passionate and empathetic she is toward others. Linsey wants to continue in her footsteps by pursuing a nursing degree and working as a nurse practitioner. Lindsey is currently working as a Certified Nursing Assistant and loves to travel.

Ashley Osterberger

Ashley is from Dubuque, Iowa, and attended Wahlert High School. At Clarke, she looks forward to joining the nursing program and becoming a member of the Clarke Association of Nursing Students (CANS) and Clarke Activities Board (CAB). She grew up in a household in which service and work ethic was important. She hopes to extend her gift of helping others to earn her nursing degree. She also wants to get involved in campus life and attend as many sporting events as she can. Ashley is an avid tennis player and loves to swim and play volleyball. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and is currently working at a dietary aide at MercyOne Hospital.

Sydney Schmitt

Sydney is a Dubuque native and was on the golden honor roll at Hempstead High School. She has done service work at Mt. Carmel and has hosted the MS Walk in Dubuque. She looks forward to becoming a nursing major at Clarke and a member of the Clarke Association of Nursing Students (CANS). She is currently a Certified Nursing Assistant for the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In her spare time, she loves playing with her three golden doodle dogs and spending time with family. Her biggest inspiration and supporter is her mother, who lost her own mother at age five. Her mother taught her that working hard is essential, and that is the motto Sydney lives by each day.
