‘A Night in Spain’ Offers Cultural Appreciation

The Edward J. and Cathy Gallagher Arts at Clarke series will host “A Night in Spain” on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Jansen Music Hall. The event will feature Ensemble Espanol, as well as Spanish cuisine provided by Clarke Dining Services.

The event begins with Clarke University ensembles under the director of Jeremy Mims and David Resnick and concludes with Ensemble Espanol, a dance company based at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. The ensemble performs classical, folkloric and flamenco dancing in the tradition of Spain. Prior to the event, Clarke Dining Services will provide authentic Spanish cuisine. Food will be served 6:30-7:15pm and an event ticket is required.

“This is the Arts at Clarke Series’ third cultural celebration event – Night in India in 2014, Night in Ireland in 2015, and this year’s Night in Spain. The Clarke ensembles have performed beautifully, the guest artists have been outstanding and the food, of course, is always delicious. Our goal is to provide the audience with an educational opportunity – to learn about the sights, sounds and tastes of a culture unlike our own. These events have been very well received by our Clarke community, as well as the greater Dubuque area. We are looking forward to another fantastic event in October,” said Megan Stull, Arts at Clarke committee member.
