Assistant Professor of Social Work Mary Gitau accepted the SCOPE (Standout Community Organization Pursuing Equity) Award at the NAACP Freedom Fun Banquet held Saturday, Nov. 4 on behalf of Clarke University. The award itself reads, “Those who hold this award are reminded that the work they do is not only important, but necessary.”

The Thomas Determan S.C.O.P.E. (Standout Community Organization Pursuing Equity) Award is dedicated to an organization whose work is geared towards helping those community members who are underrepresented. In a world where we all do not have access to the same quality resources, there are organizations which make it a bit easier for people’s basic needs to be met despite socio-economic status.

The Multicultural Issues Committee that Mary chairs is doing important work on Clarke’s campus to help us create a welcoming and inclusive campus community.
