Streamlines Conference Seeks Student Proposals

Clarke University, Loras College and the University of Dubuque will host Streamlines, an opportunity for undergraduate students at colleges and universities to share scholarship and creativity, on Saturday, Nov. 15. The conference, now in its seventh year, will be held at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa, and is open to all interested college students.   To submit a proposal: •    Paper proposals: Submit a 300-word abstract and your paper. The complete paper should be no more than seven pages in length.   •    Panel presentation proposals: Submit a 1 ½- to 2-page detailed outline of the presentation with the name and email address of the faculty member with whom you are working on this project.   •    Creative writing proposals: Submit a 300-word abstract and the complete work(s). The complete work should be no more than seven pages in length. Suggested paper/presentation topics include (in English or Spanish): American literature; British literature; Global/world literature; Modern languages; Linguistics; Creative writing; Rhetoric; Women’s studies; Literacy studies; Film studies; Literary theory; Teaching language/literature/writing. All proposals must be submitted by Wednesday, Oct. 22, using the online submission form found at www.clarke.edu/streamlines. For questions regarding submissions contact Ann Pelelo, associate professor of English, at (563)588-6434 or at ann.pelelo@clarke.edu. Limit three submissions per person. Participants will be notified of selection by Saturday, Nov. 1. If you are not submitting a paper proposal, but are interested in attending the conference, register by Monday, Nov. 10, at www.clarke.edu/streamlines. Cost for the event is $25 to cover the cost of meals. Lodging information can also be found at the Streamlines website. The keynote speaker is Bill Mayo, former vice president of Caterpillar Inc. and a contributing author to “Why to Major in English if You’re Not Going to Teach.”
