Clarke University is an educational institution rooted in the Catholic faith. Grounded in the Roman Catholic tradition and the values of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM), spirituality is a key component of the educational experience at Clarke.
In all that we do, we seek to embrace the BVM core values of freedom, education, charity and justice – values that lead us to be a living embodiment of Christ in our world today. With the support of faculty and staff, students of all faiths are encouraged to explore their beliefs and deepen the spiritual dimension of their lives.
Through religious studies courses, students develop an understanding of the beliefs and practices of Catholic faith and the role of spirituality in their own lives. This includes an awareness of the Catholic Christian responsibility for charity and social justice.
Campus ministry offers Sunday and daily liturgies and other prayer and worship opportunities, as well as a wide range of activities to support students' spiritual growth. Offerings include sacramental preparation, regional and national service trips, retreats and social-justice programs.
