Clarke’s Annual Thanksgiving Dinner Set for November 26
On Wednesday, November 26, Clarke University is pleased to host its annual Thanksgiving dinner for students unable to travel home for the holidays. The meal is free to students and will begin at 5 p.m. in the R.C. Wahlert & Celeste Atrium.
The event is planned each year through a collaboration between Clarke Residence Life and Student Life and typically serves around 100 students. Faculty and staff from across campus volunteer their time to serve the meal and visit with students. The meal is catered by Hy-Vee.
“We have students from across the country and internationally for whom a three- or four-day trip home just isn’t possible,” said Will Hudson, Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Director of Engagement. “We want to make sure they have a happy holiday and know that they are cared for, even when they are far from home. This event is a great one for our community.”
This year, the event also found community support through various alumni and local organizations. The Spot Nutrition hosted a week-long donation drive where a dollar of every drink served went to support the Clarke Thanksgiving Dinner, bringing in over $300. Several alumni also made significant contributions, raising over $1100 to ensure students would have a traditional Thanksgiving meal for the holiday.
“It’s been great to have alumni and the community support this event and we are so grateful for their contributions,” said Development Officer Bob Largent. “Dining Services does limit their hours over the holiday break, so any additional funds will be used to purchase groceries, host pizza nights, and other activities for Clarke students.”
