Clarke University Campus is Closed Monday, March 16.

Campus Community,   

Due to the forecasted inclement weather and to allow extra travel time as students return from spring break, the Clarke University campus will be closed on Monday, March 16. All classes and events are canceled. 

Faculty and staff are excused from work, however, essential employees should report to campus unless otherwise advised by their supervisor.    

Hours of Operation  

Café 1843 will open 5-9 p.m. on Sunday, March 15 for dinner service. 

On Monday, March 16, the Dining Hall will operate for lunch from 11:15 a.m-1 p.m. Café 1843 will be open 11 a.m.-9 p.m., with the grill available from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.

The library will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. 

The Kehl Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Practices are canceled except for teams with competition the next day.

During a Winter Weather Emergency, limit travel as much as possible. If you should need to go out, be sure to travel slowly, and dress in layers to stay dry and warm. 

Snow Emergency Parking in the City of Dubuque will be enforced. Those parking on Clarke Drive should move their vehicle to a parking lot to allow city crews to remove snow and avoid receiving a ticket or being towed.

Exploring Careers (Undeclared)

What do you want to be when you grow up?

It can be a tricky question.

Unsure of your major? You aren’t alone. In fact, “eXploring” is one of the most popular majors for Clarke University freshmen.

Thankfully, there is no need to stress. College is your chance to discover what’s right for you.

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you begin your search:

Clarke’s general education curriculum offers courses across many fields of study. You will have the opportunity to  explore your academic options

and not commit to a specific major.

There is a difference between a major and a career. Many jobs don’t require a specific major. Instead, employers look for college graduates who are good communicators, critical thinkers and have global awareness. Clarke’s general education curriculum offers that. We’ve had art majors go on to medical school. That’s the Clarke difference.

Every Clarke student is not officially accepted into an academic major until their sophomore or junior year. When you’re ready to officially join a program, you will  graduate at the same time as those who declared majors earlier.

You won’t be pushed through a cookie-cutter curriculum here. Instead, you will  work with a full-time faculty adviser for undeclared students who can schedule courses right for you. Our advisers have helped hundreds of students find their way.

Finding a career path doesn’t always happen in the classroom. At Clarke, you can benefit from  opportunities outside the classroom. Curious about accounting? Be the treasurer of a student organization. Considering a teaching career? Become a tutor at Clarke or plan community service in an elementary school. We help connect your student involvement to your future goals.

Calling All Parents

Rest assured, we are here to help your student earn a degree – accumulating a random set of credits does little good. Clarke University’s small class sizes, personal attention and ability for faculty and staff to know your son or daughter are important for an undeclared student. The Clarke environment is structured around a learning model that truly drives student success.
