National Amputation Expert to Conduct Workshop at Clarke

The Clarke University Physical Therapy Department, in conjunction with Clark & Associates Prosthetics and Orthotics, will host a continuing education for physical therapists by Major Elizabeth Painter, DPT, ECS, OCS entitled “Amputee Rehabilitation: Training for Advanced Performance” on Saturday, November 19, on the Clarke University campus.

Elizabeth Painter, a native of Galena, Ill., is a major in the US Army and was recently assigned to be a staff officer on the transition team for the incoming US Army Surgeon General. She has been the chief of amputee physical therapy at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for the past three-and-a-half years. She holds a doctor of physical therapy degree as well as specialty certifications in orthopedics and clinical electrophysiology.

Painter’s workshop at Clarke will focus on using a combination of sports medicine principles, an understanding of soft tissue healing and use of available prosthetic components to help lower extremity amputees achieve the highest level of function and advanced performance.
