Kalmes’ Oil Paintings on Display at Quigley Gallery

Recent Paintings, an exhibition of large-scale oil paintings by Megan Kalmes, will be displayed in Clarke University’s Quigley Gallery from Sunday, Feb. 15, through Saturday, March 7. The exhibition will feature selected works from the Bather series complemented by additional figurative paintings.  A reception for Kalmes will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. with a gallery talk at 4 p.m. Regular Quigley Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free. Megan Kalmes is currently a visiting professor of art, teaching painting and life drawing at Clarke. Kalmes was raised in Dubuque, Iowa, and received a bachelor of fine arts degree in art from Clarke University in 2008 and master of fine arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012. Working within a dialog of painting, Kalmes’ works include installations, as well as sculpture. Kalmes has taught at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is the entrepreneur with vintage stores Box of Hollyhocks and Vintage King of New York.
