Senior Spotlight: McKenzie Nodolf

By Clarke News  |  May 8, 2025

When McKenize Nodolf was trying to select a college, Physical Therapy was her primary focus. Clarke’s program stood out right away.

“My mom is an outpatient physical therapist, so I grew up around the field. I always knew that’s what I wanted to do,” McKenzie said. “Clarke’s faculty really sold me on the program and when I learned about the 3+3 pathway, it made the decision for me.”

Now in her fourth year at Clarke, McKenzie’s passion for physical therapy has only grown. As part of the 3+3 program, she’s completing her undergraduate degree in Psychology while beginning her doctorate program work.

“It’s great because I can see the theories from my Psychology classes come into play in the practicum work with patients,” McKenzie said. “For example, I am working with a neuromuscular patient who is rebuilding their strength and mobility. Having a background in Counseling and Behavior Modification helps me connect with her. I’m better able to encourage her to keep pushing and trying new things.”

McKenzie’s connections on campus are not limited to Physical Therapy, however. She joined the Soccer team, the Clarke Student Association, the Scholars Program, and more.

“Getting involved has allowed me to travel and experience all these different things, but what really ties it all together are the people,” McKenzie said. “Those times on the bus with my friends or even just hanging out in the Scholar’s room, those little moments mean so much.”

McKenzie is also heavily involved in Clarke Campus Ministry. For the last two years, she has planned the university’s annual “Into the Streets” events, coordinating a day of service for dozens of her friends and classmates.

“It was such a rewarding experience and a good way to get to know Dubuque,” McKenzie said. “I learned about all these non-profits in the area, and you could volunteer doing things you enjoy, like working with animals, helping kids, or environmental projects. You get to make a real difference and work with your friends in the community.”

To acknowledge her deep commitment to Campus Ministry, McKenzie was chosen to read the invocation at the Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 10. And while the ceremony marks an important chapter in her career at Clarke, the story is far from over.

“I’m excited to be all-in on my Physical Therapy program. I’ll start clinical this summer with an inpatient clinic in Franklin, Wisconsin,” McKenzie said. “The thing I love most is working with people and learning their stories. I can help them be the best version of themselves and lead healthier lives.”
