experience: Composer-trumpeter-educator Amy Dunker’s music resists easy
categorization. From avant-garde improvisation to minimalistic sound sculptures
to neo-romantic echoes, Amy delves deeply into the nature of human experience.
Her works have been performed throughout the United States, Czech Republic,
Italy, the Ukraine, France, India, Colombia, China, Thailand, Japan, Mexico,
Ireland, Germany, Great Britain and Puerto Rico. Major influences in her
musical education include Stanley DeRusha, Chen Yi, James Mobberley and Michael
Schelle. Amy’s works have been recorded on the ERM Media, NextAGem, Centerpoint
and Whatsit labels. Her music is published by Alliance Publications Inc.
As a trumpet player, Amy has studied with Keith Benjamin,
Marvin Perry III, Vincent DiMartino, Marshall Scott, David Greenhoe and Douglas
Gerhart. She has performed with the Dubuque Symphony, the Sioux City Symphony,
the South Dakota Symphony and the Indianapolis Brass Choir. Amy specializes in
the performance of contemporary trumpet literature and works involving extended
techniques and classical improvisation. Amy is an active member of the
International Trumpet Guild.
