Ellen Spencer

Assistant Professor of Education
Office: 124 MJH
Mail Stop: 1733
Phone: 6312

Degrees earned: BA in Business, BA in Elementary Education, MAE in Educational Leadership, ABD in Curriculum and Instruction.

Professional experience: Elementary and middle school teacher for 10 years in both Iowa and Florida.

Teaching philosophy: I want to honor each student right where they are and help them move forward in their development as a person. One way I do this is through discovery. Learning through discovery is the essence of meaningful retention and understanding of any concept.

Clarke’s impact on Ellen: Clarke’s greatest impact on me has been the feeling of being a part of a family when I am at work. The caring and cohesiveness of my colleagues is amazing.

Ellen’s impact on students: As an instructor, I spend a lot of time teaching undergraduate and graduate students by giving them the gift of constructivism through modeling as a way of “preparing to learn” instead of having a “plan to teach.” I want my students to be excited about learning in the hope that they will pass on this excitement to their future students.
