Join Clarke for A Night in Japan

By Clarke News  |  September 30, 2024

Clarke University invites the community to enjoy “A Night in Japan,” as part of its Edward J. and Cathy Gallagher Arts at Clarke Series. The event will be held Wednesday, October 23 beginning at 6 p.m. in the R.C. & Celeste Wahlert Atrium on the Clarke University campus.

The “A Night in” series is a long-standing tradition at Clarke and a favorite of alumni and public alike. This year promises to match that high standard with delicious food and exceptional performances.

The evening begins with samples of traditional Japanese cuisine, including pork gyoza, shrimp tempura, matcha green tea cookies and more. Attendees will then move to Jansen Music Hall for one-of-a-kind performances from the Clarke Collegiate Singers and Madison, Wisconsin-based drumming group, Beni Daiko.

Founded in 2012, the goal of Beni Daiko is to teach, preserve, and perform the ancient art of Taiko drumming, a form of traditional Japanese musical expression that combines mental discipline and physical demand. “Beni” means “deep red” in Japanese, representing Madison, and “Taiko” means drum. Together, the performers introduce a facet of Japanese culture through dynamic and captivating displays of musicianship.

General Admission Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for guests age 18 and younger. The full menu and ticket information is available at clarke.edu/nightinjapan
