The Clarke Compass

The Clarke Compass

YOUR CLARKE COMPASS

Compass is Clarke’s personalized approach to your education. While other schools present a cookie-cutter list of general education courses, the Clarke Compass gives you and your advisor control over your academic plan. Not only do you get to choose your path, but Compass also provides for the opportunity to take coursework, complete hands-on experiences outside the classroom, or a combination of both. With the common good at the heart of Compass, you will leave Clarke ready to make your mark on the world.

LEARN THROUGH EXPERIENCES

With Compass, we recognize the efforts of the whole person, not just what you do in the classroom. You can learn valuable life skills through athletics, drama, student organizations, volunteering, and many other activities and Compass rewards your involvement. This includes pre-approved activities like mission trips with Campus Ministry or campus events with CU Lead, as well as experiences you design with the Compass Coordinator.

“The purpose of Compass is to open students’ horizons and have a balance of life through the outcomes, and it has encouraged me to take classes I typically would not have chosen. These opportunities have gotten me out of my comfort zone and made me grow as an individual. Compass has also enhanced my soft skills and created a well-balanced schedule each semester.”

“I think the most impactful professors that I have had have found ways to light a fire in each student’s heart individually. They find out how each student learns and adjusts their teaching habits to accommodate each person’s needs.”

“My Compass Seminar II gave me the opportunity to explore and figure out how the Compass classes I was taking connected to Physical Therapy, and it helped me discover that nutrition is an area of specialization I care about.”

“If you feel a course is outside your comfort zone – take it! As a nursing student, I am used to evidence-based courses but courses like religion, philosophy, and literature made me consider a new perspective. They’ve built a foundation that can help me better relate to my patients.”
