Sample delicious cuisine and enjoy a breath-taking performance with Clarke University’s Night in Japan! A long-standing Arts at Clarke tradition, the “Night in” series celebrates food, music, and culture from around the world. This year’s event is no exception and includes a one-of-a-kind performances from the Clarke Collegiate Singers and Madison, Wisconsin-based drumming group, Beni Daiko.

Founded in 2012, the goal of Beni Daiko is to teach, preserve, and perform the ancient art of Taiko drumming, a form of traditional Japanese musical expression that combines mental discipline and physical demand. “Beni” means “deep red” in Japanese, representing Madison, and “Taiko” means drum. Together, the performers introduce a facet of Japanese culture through dynamic and captivating displays of musicianship.

Event Schedule

6-6:45 p.m. – food samplings
6:45 p.m. – Take seats
7-7:15 p.m. – Clarke Collegiate Singers
7:15-8:15 p.m. – Beni Daiko

Menu

Asazuke – Japanese pickles
Nikujyaga – Japanese Vegetable stew over rice
Gyoza – Pork and Cabbage filled Dumplings served with Teriyaki Sauce
Shrimp Tempura – served with Ponzu Sauce
Kasutera – Castella Cake, a Japanese Honey Sponge Cake
Matcha Green Tea Cookies

General Admission Tickets are $20/person for the public and FREE to Clarke students and employees. All tickets may be purchased online and are general admission.

The event is held in the Jansen Music Hall, in the R.C. & Celeste Wahlert Atrium building #1 on the campus map. Free parking will be available in any of the campus lots, but please note that parking will be limited in P1.
