Class of 1972 Leads Lion’s Den Renovation Challenge

By Clarke News  |  September 16, 2022

In honor of its 50th Reunion, the Class of 1972 is leading the charge to renovate the Lion’s Den in Mary Benedict (formerly West) Hall. Ranging from lighting upgrades to new furniture, sound system, and other equipment, Clarke has put together a plan to make this a more welcoming space that new and returning students will be proud to call home.

Classmates Mary Lane (Neubauer) Blomquist, Darlene (Gingher) Cody, Mary (Boyd) Dunneback, Pat (Kunkel) Mann, Mary (Minnehan) Moothart, and Rose (Rowles) Riccordino and Board of Trustees member Cathy Schulze make up the Class of 1972 Reunion Committee and have coordinated this project with the Mackin Office of Institutional Advancement. They’ve also contributed significantly to Golden Reunion events as part of Clarke’s Homecoming festivities September 30 – October 2.

To encourage the class of 1972 in their efforts, Cathy has generously set a challenge grant, where she will match every dollar raised up to $50,000

By ensuring Clarke has accessible, inviting spaces for students to gather, relax, and share time together, the Class of 1972 is making an important investment in the future and has set a goal of $100,000 for this effort. The members of this class have spent their personal and professional lives contributing to the BVM values of Education, Charity, Justice and Freedom, and this investment will empower future generations to do the same.

Bill Biebuyck, Vice President for Institutional Advancement

So far, members of the Class of 1972 have made gifts and pledges totaling $35,865. With Cathy Schulze’s $50,000 challenge gift, the overall total raised is $71,730 and counting.
