Remembering Sister Ramona Barwick, BVM
Lovingly known as “Sister Mary Post Office” for generations of Clarke students, Sister Ramona (Simone) Barwick passed away October 29, 2022 at the age of 91.
Sr. Ramona graduated from Clarke in 1961 and was a valued member of the Clarke community for more than 62 years. In that time, she served as food service coordinator, bookstore director, before ultimately retiring as the post office manager.
In celebration of Clarke’s 175th anniversary in 2018, the mailroom was named Barwick-Eppel Mail Center in honor of Sr. Ramona Barwick’s and Sr. Rachel Eppel’s many years of dedicated service to Clarke University.
In Clarke’s long history, more than 450 Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary have ministered at our institution. During that time, only four individuals have served longer than 60 years. These individuals include St. Kevin Foley, St. Clara Sullivan, Sr. Rachel Eppel, and Sr. Ramona Barwick.
Sr. Ramona also celebrated her diamond jubilee with the BVMs in 2019, marking 70 years of religious life.
