Clarke Students Win at the AAF Dubuque American Advertising Awards

Charlotte Rodewald's Student Best of Show and Gold winner titled Super Duper Snacks Bags

Clarke University students in the Art + Design program received nine Gold and Silver awards, two Judges Choice awards, and the Student Best of Show award at the Dubuque Chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF) Awards on Friday, February 21, at the Hotel Julien in Dubuque. Local Gold award winners of the AAF Dubuque chapter are forwarded to the regional AAF award competition in Kansas City, Missouri.

Clarke student winners included Charlotte Rodewald ’20, Kayla Winandy ’20, Hannah Ingles ’20, Emily Koetz ’20, Stevie Eide ’20, Austin Schroeder ’23, and Maggie Christianson ’21.

Rodewald took home Student Best of Show for her Super Duper Snacks Bags in the category of Sales Promotion, Packaging. This is Rodewald’s second consecutive year winning Best of Show.

In addition, Clarke students received a Gold award in recognition of their contribution to the Dubuque Arboretum Wedding Campaign, pro-bono AAF community project. This opportunity was created through the 2018 AAF Student Mentorship Program. Mentees from Clarke included: Stevie Eide, Strategist/Content Developer; Hannah Ingles, Designer; Emily Koetz, Designer; Charlotte Rodewald, Creative Director/Copywriter; and Austin Schroeder, Account & Project Manager. Members of the McCullough Creative team advised the students through the process and delivery of work.

Chair of Visual & Performing Arts and Professor of Art Louise Kames said, “We are pleased to see the distinctive excellence and creativity of our graphic design student work acknowledged by our region’s design professionals. The repeated Clarke University Art + Design student success in this annual award program speaks to the high quality of instruction and professional atmosphere that exists here.”

Associate Professor of Art + Design Eric Wold, added, “I am proud to support such a dedicated and impassioned group of artists and designers. Their passion and professionalism clearly show through in the work they produce each year. I am particularly moved by their commitment to the AAF community project.”

In addition to student winners, Clarke University’s Marketing and Communication Office earned a Gold award in the Film, Video, and Sound category, a Judges Choice award, and a Final Five award. All three awards were for their entry 2019 Dance Marathon video.

The American Advertising Federation (AAF) is a national non-profit organization, promoting and protecting the interests of advertising and public relations. Locally, AAF Dubuque is the affiliate to the national organization and AAAward competition. The mission of the competition is to recognize and reward creative excellence in the art of advertising.
