What is esports? defines esports as “competitive tournaments of video games, especially among professional gamers” (, n.d.).

How big is esports?

According to Statista, current 2018 market revenue worldwide is 906 million USD with viewership being 380 million people worldwide (Fuller, n.d.).

How many colleges/universities participate?

Currently, over 60 universities are listed under the National Association of Collegiate Esports (Morrison, 2018).

What games will be played by our student-athletes?

We are focusing on League of Legends primarily for the first year of operation. As interest develops for other esports, we will consider adding more titles to
our lineup.

Are athletic scholarships available in esports?

Participation grants are being awarded for qualifying new student admissions. Contact coaching staff at for more information.

What facilities will be utilized for esports competitions?

Currently, Clarke has allocated equipment and space for esports competitions in their Isidore Lab. Competitions can occur within this space as competitions can be viewed both physically and online formats. Stay tuned for our streamed scrimmages and matches.

Will there be travel involved for competitions?

Most tournaments will occur online and require no travel costs. We plan to travel for one tournament during our first year that is based within the Midwest region.

Do I have to be a certain rank to join?

We are currently looking at all applicants for our initial year. If you do not currently have a rank in League of Legends, we highly recommend that you perform placement matches in ranked solo queue to determine skill level.

What are the admission requirements for Clarke?

To be admitted, freshmen must have: 2.5 overall high school GPA and an ACT composite score of 18 (or math + critical reading score of 940-970 on the SAT). Transfer students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
