Study Abroad Program
Study Abroad Criteria
You have been full-time student for three consecutive semesters.
You are accepted to your major.
You have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
The world is your oyster!
Studying in another country provides a learning environment not duplicated in any classroom and can offer vital experience desired by employers.
The Clarke University study abroad program provides the opportunity to go to college in another country, and do an internship or service-learning project while there. Credit can be earned towards a major, minor, Compass, and/or graduation.
Exchange/Direct Enrollment
These opportunities are open to any student that meets study abroad eligibility and program criteria. Exchange opportunities operate on a system of reciprocity with one or more foreign institutions. The direct enrollment programs allow students to enroll from Clarke into a foreign institution. Destinations, academic, extra-curricular offerings, time periods, and enrollment requirements differ. Programs that meet these criteria are:
Exchange:
- International University of Kagoshima, Japan
- Irish American Exchange, Northern Ireland
Direct Enrollment:
- Santiago de Compostela, Spain
- University of Glasgow, Scotland (open to honor students only)
Affiliated
Affiliations are agreements Clarke has established with other U.S. institutions with robust study abroad offerings to provide students with additional study abroad opportunities. As with the exchange and direct enrollment programs, the application to and transferring of credit from affiliated institutions is streamlined and well established. Meeting the requirements and following the application process is all that is required. These are the affiliated programs with corresponding abroad destinations. Our affiliate U.S. institutions are:

Unaffiliated
Unaffiliated opportunities are programs for which no agreements exist with Clarke and another institution. The benefit of an unaffiliated program is choice, as freedom exists to study literally anywhere in the world. The drawback of an unaffiliated program is that much more work is required before going abroad. Be sure to speak with a study abroad advisor before proceeding.
